Proximity is considered one of the greenest hotels in America. It is currently striving for gold certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System. If successful, it will be only the second hotel in the US to gain this. Currently it uses 100 rooftop solar panels, recycles 75 per cent of its construction waste and captures rainwater to irrigate its vegetable gardens on the roof of the restaurant. An added bonus: the windows actually open.
