Alicia — Buenos Aires, Argentina

Located off the beaten track in the leafy, residential neighbourhood of Villa Devoto in Buenos Aires, the stark concrete edifice that houses the area’s new restaurant is causing quite a stir. Designed by architects Sergio Mizraji and Jacqueline Ciccinelli of local firm MMCV, the pared-down, minimalist exterior is skilfully balanced on the inside by local architects Florencia Ordoñez, Lucia Villareal and Sol Garcia del Rio of Nidolab Arquitectura, who installed blonde petiribi wood floors, wall-to-wall bookcases and Carrara marble black tiles. The salon is also peppered with copper fixtures and classic furniture by local brand Net, while outside sits an airy patio enhanced by wood and white lacquer furniture. The food is a reinterpretation of Mediterranean classics and features dishes such as veal carpaccio with wasabi mayonnaise and tomato marmalade. We recommend the Chilean salmon with vegetable risotto and saffron clam cream.
