Cosme — New York, USA
Forget nachos and margaritas, New York’s newest restaurant – the first US outpost from lauded chef and restaurateur Enrique Olvera – is a sincere and coherent philosophy of Mexican eating. But unlike the elaborate cooking in Pujol, his acclaimed Mexico City restaurant, Cosme’s unfussy menu includes small plates using seasonal produce found in the Hudson Valley. Interiors – by architect Alonso de Garay and designer Micaela De Bernardi – are a blend of Scandinavian functionality and Mexican charm; clean lines and relaxed furnishings in a warming wood palette are interspersed with accessories such as custom plates by ceramic company Anfora and hand-blown Casa Dragones tequila bottles, reclaimed as water carafes. ‘We are always trying to find the best in small elements and reference Mexican culture and materials,’ says De Garay. And with that lingering energy of Mexican hospitality, Cosme truly feels as if you’re dining in your friend’s living room.
