Fab 40: Superkül, Toronto
Young Toronto-based practice Superkül was only founded in 2002 but can already boast a diverse portfolio, working eco-wonders in every field, but especially residential design. Set up by principles Andre D’Elia and Margaret Graham, the emerging practice has scooped a couple of local awards for their house designs.
Their most recent offerings, SHIFT Cottage and 40R_Laneway House, demonstrate Superkül's commitment to green building, with both projects employing numerous sustainable elements and strategies. These include passive lighting, ventilation and air conditioning, as well as the almost exclusive use of locally-sourced material and, in the case of 40R_Laneway, a green roof, maintained by rainwater collected especially into a cistern.
