Maria Cristina Didero joins Wallpaper* as Milan Editor
A long-term friend of Wallpaper*, Didero is an independent design curator, consultant and freelance author based in Milan and working internationally
Wallpaper* announces the appointment of Maria Cristina Didero as new Milan Editor. A long-term friend and collaborator of the Wallpaper* team, Didero is one of today’s most respected curators, with over two decades of experience in the field of design and beyond. Through her work, she champions young designers, addresses the topic of sustainability in design, and explores design history and collaborative practice.
Some of her most notable projects include a long-term collaboration with Fendi, commissioning Cristina Celestino, Chiara Andreatti and Sabine Marcelis for the fashion brand’s annual Design Miami exhibitions, and an exploration of Radical Design (her area of expertise) through exhibitions, books and a film. She has curated projects with Snarkitecture, Carlo Massoud, Philippe Malouin, Nendo, Zaven, mischer'traxler, Michael Young and Erez Nevi Pana among many others, and multidisciplinary initiatives merging design, art, architecture and curatorial practice.
In the past, Didero has managed exhibitions for the Vitra Design Museum, and collaborated with some of the most important institutions worldwide including the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, and Design Museum Holon, as well as fashion brands such as Louis Vuitton and Valextra .
The appointment follows the announcement in December 2020 that former Milan Editor Marco Sammicheli was made Director of the Triennale’s Museum of Italian Design. Sammicheli will remain a Wallpaper* Contributing Editor.
Didero says: ‘Forward and upward: I’m delighted to start collaborating with one of the most interesting voices of the international design scene, joining Wallpaper's great team, acting as the magazine’s eyes and ears in my beloved city.’
Sarah Douglas, Wallpaper* Editor-in-Chief, comments: ‘I am delighted that Maria Cristina is joining the Wallpaper* family. I have admired her professionally for many years, and look forward to all the exciting Italy-based stories and projects we can work on together. With Maria Cristina’s unique insight and exceptional reputation, we will continue to deliver the best in design to our wonderful readers.’
