This San Francisco apartment combines waterfront views with West Coast minimalism
Design and branding studio FrenchCalifornia unveils its residence in San Francisco’s One Steuart Lane building, in collaboration with Peter Blake Gallery
A residential concept that puts collectible design at the heart of its ethos has opened in San Francisco’s new luxury condominium, One Steuart Lane. The building, located on the waterfront along the Embarcadero, encompasses minimalist and modern architectural codes complemented by contemporary interiors designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, with amenity interiors by Rottet Studio.
Design studio FrenchCalifornia has collaborated with Laguna Beach-based Peter Blake Gallery on curating a residence inside the building, working in harmony with the high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the apartment interior with light.

The project, Residence 903, presents a chic curation of design and art, incorporating design pieces from Jorge Zalszupin, Joe Goode, Rick Owens, Sergio Rodrigues, Stephanie Bachiero, Vladimir Kagan and Wendell Castle. There are also works by artists including James Turrell, De Wain Valentine, Larry Bell, Lita Albuquerque, Mary Corse, Peter Alexander, Scot Heywood and Tony DeLap.
‘At FrenchCalifornia, our intention was always to partner with Peter Blake Gallery for this project, given their expertise in West Coast minimalism,’ says founder Guillaume Coutheillas. ‘In collaborating with Peter Blake, we selected works that evoked an immediate visual response within the context of One Steuart Lane. We hope our design helps potential clients find a personal connection to the building as they experience the residence in the presence of design pieces that help tell the story of the building and San Francisco’s unique design aesthetic.’
For Peter Blake, the collaboration was a natural one: ‘Together, we were able to create a flat fit for a collector of California minimalism – including American Light and Space and hard-edge artists – and modern design spanning the 1930s Bauhaus to early 1970s French. The residence exudes sophistication and refinement.’
