The minimalist bath for the architecturally minded
Victoria + Albert’s curvy ‘Barcelona’ collection by House of Rohl, and the Wallpaper*-curated Dune Retreat colour palette are the perfect combination for a calming, architecturally inspired bathroom

In partnership with House of Rohl
Barcelona is a metropolis of architectural wonder, where both classic and modern structures adhere to principles of organic design creating a skyline of timeless works of art. The Catalonian capital is also sea-adjacent, with a 4km sandy beach at the edge of its hot and atmospheric urban sprawl.
From the top of the towering La Sagrada Família to the warm, windy esplanade of Platja de Sant Sebastià, Barcelona is sun, sea and spectacle living in perfect harmony.
The Victoria + Albert ‘Barcelona’ collection by House of Rohl, finished in the Dune Retreat colour palette, offers a similar mix of the architectural and natural in terms of its design inspiration. With a symmetrical design of organic curves rendered in timeless style, the bath’s rimless, deep, double-ended oval structure makes a statement but never overwhelms the space it occupies.

Wallpaper* collaborated with the House of Rohl to add joy and calm to the bathroom, creating a series of colour palettes including the warm, contemplative and escapist Dune Retreat – the perfect combination for the ‘Barcelona’ collection. Inspired by shifting sands the Dune Retreat palette evokes the colours of natural minerals such as feldspar, quartz, and ochre, and sun-baked earth, its tones echoing those of arid natural environments.
‘We are all influenced by the stuff that surrounds us – fashion, industrial design, furniture, art and architecture,’ says Wallpaper* editor-in-chief Sarah Douglas. ‘Bathrooms are sanctuaries, extremely personal spaces where you need to feel calm and serene. The Dune Retreat palette for the “Barcelona” collection was influenced by hot Mediterranean climates, African and American desert environments, and inspired both by architecture and the sculptural forms of the Victoria + Albert product ranges.’
