Wallpaper* Bespoke: London Lock In
With SodaStream as co-host, Wallpaper* took over Chapman House, part of London’s super-smart Chelsea Townhouses project by the Morpheus design and development company, for the latest in our series of Lock In events. After raucous parties in Milan, Stockholm and New York, the mobile effervescence arrived in the UK during London Design Festival week.
The concept behind the SodaStream Lock In tour was to free minds and let dancing feet follow; to educate, agitate and inspire. In the US alone, the average family gets through 10,657 bottles and cans of water and fizzy drinks in five years, while 130 billion bottles and cans end up as trash annually. Worldwide, the soft drinks industry burns 100 million barrels of oil a year just in its production of bottles. With its beautiful, rebooted range of machines, SodaStream wants the design community to help stop the madness of domestic soft drink consumption and get busy with homemade fizzy instead.
At the London Lock In, guests included Jaguar advanced design director Julian Thomson, Cutler and Gross creative director Monica Chong, Carrera’s Elisabetta Dell’Antonia, designers Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, Philippe Malouin and Nina Tholstrup, and Yves Béhar curated the cocktail menu, including Fizzy Colada, Dutch and Bubbly and Bitter Sweet Truth, prepared by SodaStream bubbleologists at our pop-up bar.
DJ Lou Hayter of Premier Model Management and Mercury-nominated band New Young Pony Club got everyone up off the B&B Italia furniture and dancing. The property’s oak flooring, Jura Blue Grey stone, Patinato Veneziano polished plaster, Whistler leather wall panels and hand-painted Fromental wallpaper provided a suitably Chelsea-ish backdrop.
