These satin accessories will add opulence to any outfit
As we enter a season of dressing up, Wallpaper* selects 11 of the best satin accessories to elevate the everyday – from Prada’s viral ‘Wish’ bag to colourful cummerbunds, opera gloves and the ultimate mules
With the breakneck pace of contemporary fashion – where a trend can take over the feed and then disappear within weeks, even days – it is rare for a runway piece to retain its cachet beyond the season. There are, of course, exceptions, most usually in the realm of accessories, which tend to have greater staying power. Such was the case with Prada’s ‘Wish’ bag, which, despite being from S/S 2026 (which means it was first shown in September 2025) and there having been two more Prada womenswear shows held in between, was named as the ‘hottest product’ of Q3 2026 by the Lyst Index last week. The index, which collates search and social-media data to assess brand buzz, also saw Prada take the top spot as the quarter’s ‘hottest brand’ (it knocked Parisian powerhouse Chanel into number two).
11 of the best satin accessories for autumn/winter
A satin cummerbund appears on the runway at Celine’s S/S 2027 menswear show, held this summer in Paris
Crafted from duchesse satin, in an array of Prada-esque hues – from sky blue to topaz and ivy green – the ‘Wish’ bag is a riff on the classic drawstring dust bag, and fits into a wider adoption of the fabric in recent seasons. Synonymous with luxury and wealth – satin was first developed during in 12th-century China from silk filaments – the lustrous fabric made its journey westwards during the Renaissance, adopted by monarchs and merchants to denote status. On the runway, designers have given it a more quotidian spin: at Celine’s S/S 2027 menswear show, colourful satin cummerbunds wrapped around simple cashmere sweaters and trousers, while at Prada’s S/S 2026 show, opulent satin opera gloves were teamed with uniform-style shirts and trousers. Creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons said it was about removing clothing from its usual ‘hierarchies’, positing a ‘new elegance’ for a world in flux.
It is in this spirit that we have collated 11 of the best satin accessories as we enter a season of dressing up – these are pieces that, with their innate elegance, can be worn to elevate even the simplest of outfits. Like a plissé satin belt by Valentino Garavani that denotes old-world glamour but could equally be worn over a T-shirt and jeans, or colourful clutch bags from Saint Laurent and Alaïa, which instantly transform the everyday.

These 1980s-inflected power pumps from Saint Laurent are crafted from brown satin and feature a razor-thin plexiglass and satin spike heel. Elongated towards a squared ‘vamp’ heel, their dramatic silhouette is an apt reminder of Anthony Vaccarello‘s knack for after-dark glamour (the designer left the house after a decade last month).
Pieter Mulier’s ‘Le Teckel’ handbag is one of the defining successes of his tenure, which culminated in January 2026 after five years at the house (his next role is at Versace). This clutch version of the elongated style is the perfect contemporary evening bag, crafted from smooth yellow satin.
Vivid flashes of colour have become a calling card of Michael Rider’s collections for Celine, which marry a preppy sensibility with the bourgeois codes for which the Parisian house is known. This silk-satin scarf comes in scarlet-red – one of Rider’s signature hues, utilised by the designer since his debut in the summer of 2025.
Last month, Prada’s ‘Wish’ pouch – a play on the humble dust bag, remade in satin or leather – was named Lyst’s hottest product of Q3 (the platform uses search data and social media data to measure ‘buzz’). Despite new versions that feature embroidered adornment or topstitching, the silk-duchesse original remains our favourite, available in an array of Prada-esque hues, from ivy green to baby blue.
It is tricky to find an evening bag to go with a given outfit – all too often, sequins, beading or gleaming metallic hardware prove incongruous. This rectangular clutch from Saint Laurent – available in a variety of 1980s-inflected hues, as well as classic black – is free from embellishment or branding, meaning it can be worn with any party attire (or simply to elevate the everyday).
This pleated satin collar served as the invitation for Jonathan Anderson’s A/W 2026 menswear show for Dior, and bas since been adopted on the red carpet by the likes of Charlize Theron and Robert Pattison (more unexpectedly, John Malkovich also wore a version of the style). Capturing the designer’s knack for undone eveningwear – something of a signature of his tenure so far – the collar is designed to be worn over an open blazer in place of a shirt.
Named ‘Le Coeur’ for the heart-shaped motifs on the shoe’s sole, these classic mules are perhaps the platonic ideal of the ‘evening shoe’ – an elegant slip-on with a pointed toe and perfectly weighted 5.5cm heel (more vertiginous versions of the style come with a 9cm stiletto heel).
