080 Barcelona Fashion

Recently Wallpaper* Fashion Editor, Ursula Geisselmann jetted out to the Catalan Capital to check out the best on the Barcelona scene.
Conceived back in 2007, 080 Barcelona Fashion has for the past four seasons provided a launch pad for independent fashion designers and established names alike, and this season’s showcase proved no different, featuring collections from some of the city’s rising stars.
Style-savvy Barcelonans ensured that statements were made both in the shows, and out.
Barcelona-based designer Juan Antonio Avalos put on a high-octane show.
Avalos' collection was Inspired by Mazinger Z - a Japanese anime cartoon watched by Spanish children at the beginning of the 80s.
Taking his cue from the high-colour cartoon, the show combined blocky colours with bold sartorial statements.
Colourful pieces produced in lightweight nylon and quilted fabrics were found throughout the collection
Now a recognised name in the city, Avalos once assisted both Bernhard Willhelm and Antonio Miro.
Manuel Bolaño put on one of the most exciting spectacles of the week.
Bolaño took inspiration from the clothes his mother wore when he was a child, alongside - perhaps unfortunately for his mum - the fluffy form of a teddy bear.
The collection was a beautifully executed mix of tailored jackets and delicate mohair pieces.
Ornate skirts and dresses came contrasted with metallic jacquards, which were ruched to create extreme volumes.
A strong sense of fantasy and technical proficiency underpinned Bolaño's offering
Since his debut outing in 2008, Bolaño has jumped from strength to strength.
The A/W 2010 show from Heal was a highlight of the week.
The creative brains behind Heal, Alice Reydellet and Herve Koelich met ten years ago and have worked together ever since.
This season's collection was inspired by characters from Wes Anderson's acclaimed film, 'The Life Aquatic'.
The collection featured simple, elegant silhouettes in flowing fabrics.
Many-hued materials and bright stripe-based prints could be found throughout the Heal collection.
The collection from Karlota Laspalas came inspired by her musings on the past.
Laspalas claims her collection was influenced by a slashed, black painting her father made in honour of Lucio Fontana.
As the designer says herself, ‘it seems everything is turning dark though there’s always something to hold on to, giving us hope before everything fades to black'
The result was a beautiful and emotive collection of tailored men's pieces.
Martin Lamothe's A/W 2010 collection came inspired by the romanticism of 'the cruise'.
Contrasting materials including nautical rope, phenol resin cotton and silk gauze could be found throughout Lamothe's collection
Nautical colours such as cream, navy and red prevailed at Martin Lamothe.
Water repellent materials such as silk gauze and silk organza both gave a nod to Lamothe's seafaring theme.
Montse Liarte's A/W 2010 collection was inspired by the geometry of aerodynamics.
Liarte started her career in fashion as a multi-faceted assistant to Lutz.
The collection featured tailored pieces designed for the city, complete with structured, sculptural detailing.
Beautiful perspex accessories could be found adorning the range of Liarte's creations.
The beautiful Barcelona weather ensured that spirits were high throughout the week.
Songzio's A/W 2010 collection attempted to embody a sense of aspiration, ambition and attainment.
Songzio's pieces were dark, sharp and mysterious.
Songzio caims to have been influenced by neo-avant-garde architecture for the collection.
New York designer Tim Hamilton showcased just a small part of his A/W 2010 collection.
The collection came inspired by youth culture and was dark and moody.
Hamilton, in his own words, is primarily concerned with expressing a 'cohesive, artistic message'.
Innovative Argentinean designer Martin Churba was behind Tramando's A/W 2010 collection.
Churba developed a range of new textiles and woven fabrics for the collection.
Tramando's collection played on the contrast between archaic cultures and new textile techniques in handmade couture.
Greek designer Yiorgos Eleftheriades showcased a strong, feminine collection for his A/W 2010 outing.
Yiorgos Eleftheriades' collection was inspired by Amazonian hunters, given an urban twist.
The mix of fluid fabrics, leather and fur resulted in an ultra-feminine collection.
Consequently, the show was filled with movement and elegance.
Hues of navy, grey and olive were offset against black across the collection.
