Fab 40: Commonwealth Utilities
As a creative partnership, the Australian Richard Christiansen and Canadian Anthony Keegan – hence the Commonwealth tag though both are now committed New Yorkers – pack an impressive collective CV. Keegan has designed for Versace, Armani and Donna Karan whilst Christiansen heads Chandelier Creative, a full service agency that has worked on advertising, branding and packaging for the likes of the Gap and W Hotels.
Launched for spring/summer ’09, Commonwealth Utilities is their take on day-to-night, office-to-speakeasy tailoring. The range is already stocked by the likes of Fred Segal and Saks 5th Avenue and, unsurprisingly, its website is a lesson in smart contemporary salesmanship. In fact so sound is the pair’s take on the very best things in life, they provided us with their list of the best things to do in NYC. From a wet shave in the morning to a place ‘to strip’ after dark, via an oyster omelette and a fixed-wheel cycle, so comprehensively cool was their list it was too good to keep to ourselves, we’ve created an extra New York territory based on their suggestions.
