Gucci S/S 2015

The stripe theme that has been gaining steam through this Milan menswear season hit a crescendo at Gucci where creative director Frida Giannini drew them in bold navy and white vertical ribbons. Her nautical stripes jazzed up the entire surface of snug jackets, skinny pants and cross body bags, also creeping onto the details of lapels, cuffs or diagonal straps on cross body bags cut from a sporty red, white or blue. The sailing motif wasn't so much for the guests of a luxury liner as it was the captain, as jackets were emblazoned with gold metal buttons and admiral's insignia on the chest pockets, while white shirts had a naval flair. Happily, the result did not settle in the stiff upper ranks. Thanks to the ubiquitous new Gucci cotton chino that was loose around the hips and undone with relaxed rolled cuffs, not to mention her banged up jeans and Chuck Taylor-esque tennis shoes, these were clothes that could work for any class ticket.
