Expect the unexpected is the general rule of thumb when it comes to Thom Browne's shows. This season, the designer created an Alice in Wonderland-grade garden of statues on the fourth floor of a Chelsea gallery, complete with a manicured grass catwalk where the main event would take place. Eschewing the mega-mix soundtrack norm, the show was set to a voice narrating a rambling fairytale. Browne's signature suits were adorned with kaleidoscopic splashes of colour in the form of frenetic florals, wild marbling and bold, painterly prints. Although the show's overall effect was that of a very well-dressed, Mad Hatters party (the millinery came courtesy of Stephen Jones, of course), Browne's pieces were beautiful in their tailoring and hypnotic in their detail. We're already looking forward to seeing how high he raises the bar to next.
