Mood board: The vibe this season at Giambattista Valli was short and sassy as the Rome-born, Paris-based designer chopped his signature dresses into such short lengths that they might easily have passed for shirts. Of course, nothing this refined designer does looks vulgar so though they showed off plenty of skin. Valli’s dresses were wrapped up in gorgeous, glamorous packages.

Best in show: Valli went minimal (for him) for evening in a series of diaphanous single tone chiffon dresses. But his best work happened with those itty-bitty day dresses cut from rich jacquards and patched up in intricate collages of couture-worthy fabrics, or mini skirts with contrast color pockets and shiny silver studs.

Finishing touches: Valli had one of our favourite gladiator boots of the season on his runway. His came with a rocking rhinestone flat form base and had a series of thin suede straps wrap up the leg with discreet gold buckles.
