Opening Ceremony S/S 2017
Scene setting: As usual, Opening Ceremony eschewed the typical runway show, instead presenting a ‘Pageant of the People’, hosted by Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen and starring bold-named personalities like actress Rashida Jones, comedian Ali Wong, actress Whoopi Goldberg and actress Natasha Lyonne as contestants.
Mood board: Opening Ceremony founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim celebrated the story of the American immigrant. Their spring/summer 2017 collection channels the new natural frontiers immigrants came across, with wildflower motifs, space-dyed knits and mélange yarn meant to have the look of misty skylines. It also touched on American craft through oblong collars and smocked panels.
Best in show: Opening Ceremony put new touches on the off-the-shoulder trend by layering it over long-sleeved shirts and dresses. Striped dresses, on the other hand, evoked memories of Sonia Rykiel’s signature motif.
