Dolce & Gabbana S/S 2018
Scene setting: This was the second show at Milan Fashion Week for Dolce & Gabbana- the brand hosted a secret evening-wear focused outing on Saturday night, showing their designs on a host of Milennials. For their main S/S 2018 show at the Metropol, Dolce & Gabbana erected a backdrop of larger than life playing cards that span and rotated to signal the show’s beginning. As the show began, a bumper soundtrack of pop and R&B rang out, from Rihanna’s Love on the Brain to Beyoncé’s Crazy in Love.
Mood board: Glamorous eveningwear and Dolce & Gabbana signatures were at the forefront of the collection, such as sensual lace and lingerie-revealing dresses, tailored suits, embellished regimental jackets and evening gowns. There were cherubim and playing card prints, and tongue-in-cheek food motifs like cabbages, peas in pods and cannoncini pastries (the brand also experimented with aubergine, tomato and pepper for S/S 2012 – and who can forget the punchy pasta motifs from S/S 2017?) that featured on corseted gowns, pussy bow blouses and high-waisted trousers.
Finishing touches: Nodding to the food motifs in the collection, models carried net grocery bags stuffed with carrots and parsley. The brand is also known for its humourous approach to accessories and for S/S 2018 it imagined chunky oversized earrings, dangling with carrots and aubergine.
