Beazley Designs of the Year 2019 shortlist announced
For the second time, Beazley Designs of the Year slots into the London Design Festival calendar. The 76 nominees of the awards' 12th edition showcase innovation over the past 12 months in categories of architecture, graphics, product, digital, fashion and transport. Described as a ‘compelling snapshot of the current world of design’, this year’s shortlist investigates design’s role on the planet, featuring a tool for early HIV detection; Jasper Morrison’s stacking chair for Emeco that reuses waste; a digital project that combats gender bias, and The Shed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro. For this year’s exhibition at London’s Design Museum – curated by Beatrice Galilee and realised by 3D designer Pernilla Ohrstedt with graphics by Zak Group – visitors are invited into a space that reuses the past year’s installation. Winners will be announced on 21 November, but for now, explore the varied entries that made the shortlist below...

Rosa Bertoli was born in Udine, Italy, and now lives in London. Since 2014, she has been the Design Editor of Wallpaper*, where she oversees design content for the print and online editions, as well as special editorial projects. Through her role at Wallpaper*, she has written extensively about all areas of design. Rosa has been speaker and moderator for various design talks and conferences including London Craft Week, Maison & Objet, The Italian Cultural Institute (London), Clippings, Zaha Hadid Design, Kartell and Frieze Art Fair. Rosa has been on judging panels for the Chart Architecture Award, the Dutch Design Awards and the DesignGuild Marks. She has written for numerous English and Italian language publications, and worked as a content and communication consultant for fashion and design brands.
