Kokus’ superfood dairy-free ice cream bowls are good for you – and the planet
Dairy-free ice cream: a phrase you don’t often here in the same mouthful as ‘superfood’. But Kokus, New York’s ‘healing’ soft serve yogurt is a not-so-guilty treat: allergen-friendly, hydrating and indulgent.
Founded by New Yorker Carli Blum, Kokus’ soft serve features a rich and creamy texture akin to its dairy equivalent, but with the added benefits of stomach-loving probiotics and enzymes. Made from cultured coconut cream sweetened with raw honey, Kokus emphasises healthy, high-quality ingredients – eight or fewer – that are clean, vibrant and functional. Served with delicious superfood toppings (like blueberries, dried cranberries and coconut shards), they’re easy on the eye, too.
To wit, a commitment to ethically and locally sourced ingredients mean Kokus isn’t negatively impacting the planet. Each bowl is given an uplifting name to match, like ‘Vitality’ and ‘Zen’. We particularly love the ‘Glow’ bowl, which supports the body to banish free radicals, moisturise, detox and stimulate blood flow for beautiful glowing skin, piled high with spiced turmeric noney, goji-mulberry mix, chocolate chia seeds and bee pollen on lemon-vanilla tart ice cream.
Blum has a history of creating successful brands, by pairing a simple, good idea, with eye-catching visuals. Before taking on the cold-throat world of ice cream, she co-founded Everywear, the first technology platform to bring editorial authority to e-commerce through personalised recommendations.
Though currently only available in NYC, the stylised food photography of Kokus has taken the world by storm via Instagram. A new ice cream sandwich is the latest trend to feed the feed with sugary goodness. Kokus is a non-virtual hit at Brooklyn’s Smorgasburg – the largest weekly open-air food market in America – and Springbone Kitchen, where you’ll also find the popular scooped-out coconut halves, overflowing with glo yo.
