Sensory overload: Curio Noir opens flagship store in Auckland
A new retail experience has recently opened its doors on Auckland’s Ponsonby Road. Behind a window shrouded in an ox-blood red velvet curtain is Curio Noir, the new flagship store for the home-grown perfume brand, known hitherto for its candles but now unveiling Absolute Parfum, an exquisite range of handmade fragrances.
Curio Noir’s creator, Tiffany Jeans, has collaborated with interior architect Rufus Knight and a handful of artisans to create a unique and intimate space. It features a large bespoke walnut and brass wall unit designed to display the Curio Noir collection, a large monolithic centerpiece hand-carved by Jeans’ cousin for a point of sale, and an area to pour the perfumes. The space is both dark and enveloping by design – it limits the senses of sight and touch while heightening olfaction.
'Absolute Parfum was created not only from my love for scent but also as a response to a number of customers who asked to have our candle scents made into wearable perfumes,' says Jeans. The initial four unisex fragrances on offer – 'Opia', 'Diaphanous', 'Tobacco Night' and 'Dark Bouquet' – are made in Grasse by local perfumers from the finest ingredients. Beautiful bespoke, hand-blown glass bottles, made in collaboration with Monmouth Glass Studio, can be selected for larger quantities.
Also available from the flagship is Curio Noir’s coveted hand poured glass candle range, hard soaps and leather coasters, alongside exclusive Zora Bell Boyd jewellery and wares from Comme Des Garçons.
