MAC's first makeup studio has just launched on New York's Upper East Side. Unlike its ten existing Manhattan-area stores, the emphasis is less on pushing products, and more about providing a space wholly dedicated to its expert makeup services and professional artistry
A firm favourite with makeup artists and photographers, MAC has always had a knack for tailoring its professional beauty ranges to work for women with demanding schedules, and its latest venture is no exception.
The beauty megabrand's first makeup studio has just launched on New York's Upper East Side. Unlike its ten existing Manhattan-area stores, the emphasis is less on pushing products, and more about providing a space wholly dedicated to its expert makeup services and professional artistry.
The 950 sq ft space feels surprisingly intimate. Six beauty stations line the centre of the studio, with two more tucked away in the back for private groups. Warm and cool lighting tones are blended throughout to create the impression of natural light, and while the full product range is available to purchase, merchandising has been kept discreet. Instead, the walls are lined with smoked mirrors and oversized face charts, finished with the sultry eye shadows and bold lip colours that have become MAC's signature look.
As well as application lessons and beauty advice tailored to fit the customer's personal preferences, the studio's professional makeup artists also offer a menu of MAC's most enduring looks, whether for a regular work day or a more glamorous evening out.
To reflect the growing demand for on-the-go beauty that can keep up with our fast paced lifestyles, the studio is open from 7am Monday to Friday and stays open later on the weekend. With plans to open more studios and – if all goes well – an at-home drop in service, expect to see a lot more MAC sooner rather than later.
