London’s loveliest bakery, bistro and blow-dry bar gives new meaning to immersive beauty
Self-proclaimed ‘lifestyle café’ Sans Pere has launched its third space within Hershesons’ flagship beauty store in London’s Fitzrovia. Already on our hot list of the best beauty spots around the world, the addition of Sans Pere elevates Hershesons from immersive salon into day trip destination, where we could happily while away a long afternoon, nibbling on freshly baked croissants between blow-dries.
‘No-one “needs” a handmade tartelette, a freshly filled matcha choux or a la minute truffle baked eggs,’ says Barney Goff, founder of Sans Pere. ‘But then, Sans Pere at Hershesons is not about necessity, yet nor is it about hedonism. It is a place where you can enjoy life’s simple pleasures and escape.’
Inside Sans Pere at Hershesons, Fiztrovia.
It’s Goff’s low-key attitude to luxury that makes Sans Pere – and Hershesons more broadly – such a success. Because the salon doubles up as a social space (with comfy co-working areas available for those really trying to stretch the boundaries of ‘agile working’) appointments are relaxed and unhurried. The food is similarly presented, with a concise menu ideal for post-pedicure snacking.
Throughout the 5000 sq ft space, the design literally reflects Hershesons’ longstanding mantra: ‘no limits, boundaries or rules’. Distinct areas merge into each another, blending beauty, food and co-working into one social and comforting cocktail. In the Sans Pere area, a geometric rug by Catherine MacGruer sets the tone. ‘The rug instantly became the centrepiece that drove the colour scheme and clean lines used within the design of the space,’ Goff explains. ‘The rattan chairs, created for the outdoors are now brought inside and surround a mosaic bar which evokes a feeling of being poolside in the sunny Mediterranean.’
Poolside or otherwise, we challenge anyone to leave Hershesons feeling anything other than pampered and relaxed – even if you have spent the afternoon on your laptop.
