Genesis G70 is an expression of pure driving pleasure
Elegantly fusing performance and contemporary luxury, the Genesis G70 has us yearning for the open road
In partnership with Genesis
The new Genesis G70 is a refreshingly different take on contemporary luxury design. Mindful of the demanding requirements of the most youthful segment of the high-end market, the Korean brand has devoted itself to finding ways to engage and emphasise new definitions of luxury.
The auto industry tends to be dominated by tradition, but as a relative newcomer to the scene, Genesis is not bound by heritage. Instead, it shares an affinity with other aspects of Korean culture, from the country’s globally acclaimed architecture scene to the cutting-edge consumer electronics, high-tech manufacturing and cultural programming that are making inroads into markets around the world. Genesis’ distinctive line-up currently consists of the GV80 SUV and G80 saloon, and the flagship G90. The new G70 will shortly be joined by the GV70 SUV, completing a collection of luxury performance cars that are designed to be both emotional and elegant.
The Genesis G70 embodies the spirit of travel and adventure. With this rear-wheel-drive performance saloon, Genesis’ engineers have had the freedom to create a beautifully balanced, athletic car that puts a focus on the enjoyment of driving. This is a car built for a road trip, with a high-quality, ultra-comfortable interior and a suite of standard technology that assists but never intrudes.
The G70’s exterior design is brave and characterful, bringing the key elements of Genesis’ design DNA to the fore without appearing gauche or over the top. These elements include the distinctive ‘Quad Lamps’, between which sits the bold crest grille that draws a direct parallel to the Genesis badge, complete with ‘G-Matrix’ pattern. The G70’s low roof and wide stance is emphasised by the optional 19in wheels, while the flowing lines along the side profile give the car a coupé-like sensuousness and an innate sense of power, as does the deeply sculpted front bonnet.
Those first impressions are wrapped up in perfect proportions, deftly conveyed whether the G70 is driving at highway speeds or simply parked up to be admired. Inside, the driver and their passengers are taken to another level of comfort, with a driver-focused dashboard and a cabin interior that is light and spacious. Available finishes such as Nappa leather with prominent stitching, and aluminium trim, along with a fluid, tactile dashboard layout with touchscreen navigation and analogue controls make the G70 a car for those who appreciate physical interactions as well as the latest technology. The two-tone design packages available for the interior create a sense of architectural form, marking a natural separation between the furniture-inspired seating and the physical structure of the car.
The result is a refined and calming place for long-distance travel, a harmonious space designed to soak up the miles with minimum effort. Subtle details prevail, like the leather-wrapped shift controller, and the sense of personalisation that comes from the car’s ability to engage with your own devices. The new luxury consumer is not concerned with rarity or richness, but about experience. The G70 offers tactile surfaces, welcoming touch points and a sense of space and light, with leather and aluminium surfaces that take the G-matrix geometry and transform it into visually striking interior elements.
Like all Genesis models, the G70 comes with extremely high levels of standard equipment, including a rearview camera and smart cruise control, and the 10.25in Genesis Infotainment System. The car’s athletic ability is managed by sport-focused driving systems that include available electronically controlled suspension and a dedicated Sport+ drive mode.
As the world opens up, the lure of exploration and the attraction of new horizons is gathering pace. The long-distance road trip is undergoing a renaissance, a more grounded and authentic way of covering miles at a time of changing travel priorities. The Genesis G70 is a car that inspires travel for travel’s sake, blending performance and comfort, technology and tradition, stealth and style. The open road beckons.
