Super Whatnot — Brisbane, Australia

Melbourne led the charge, Sydney recently followed and now it's Brisbane’s turn to capitalise on its new ‘small bars’ license with a swathe of petite drinking dens. Super Whatnot challenges the city’s casual pub culture from its tiny home off the main pedestrian mall. Its always-changing selection of cocktails, craft beers and boutique wines is inspired by the Rio Grande. ‘Think Tex Mex, but better,’ says owner Simon Martin. It’s also got a cool vintage-industrial vibe. Local architect Angus Munro has, despite the diminutive size, incorporated a sunken lounge and loft, decorated with smoky mirrors, beaded skulls and custom terrariums.
