Sam Sam Korean Chicken and Beer — Melbourne, Australia
Following the success of its first outpost, which opened in 2015, Sam Sam Korean Chicken and Beer has opened a second location just down the road in Melbourne Central banking, no doubt, on the heavy footfall generated by the city's shopping and transport hub.
Local studio Arkim was tapped to reimagine the compact 24 sq m space to include just 12 seats, self-ordering kiosks, a counter, and a bar area. Taking its cues from Korea's public bath culture, subtle blue tones are revealed through a softly curved, continuous layout of tiles, that the designers orchestrated in 3D, resulting in a slick, minimal and modern-retro space that the team say, ‘adapts cultural and traditional architecture into a more contemporary setting'.
Of course, with Korean fried chicken being the star of the show, the menu offers a full sweep of options, ranging from the original, no sauce, Sam Sam Chicken to the waffle chicken topped with sour cream and cheese sauce. For those looking for a healthier option, don't miss out on the cleansing ginseng soup made with house-made chicken broth and filled with all sorts of goodies like chestnuts, jujube and sticky rice.
