The Pottinger — Hong Kong, China

Harking back to the charm of old Hong Kong, The Pottinger is a new 68-room boutique hotel perched on the city’s first pebbled step street. Suzy Annetta, of local interiors firm Studio Annetta, was tapped to oversee the hotel’s design, which elegantly marries colonial influences with oriental details. Cultural tributes are peppered throughout, including 1950s scenes of the city by photographer Fan Ho and illustrated artworks by the Hong Kong Design Institute. Nestled on the hotel’s third floor, The Envoy bar has an East meets West feel with oriental wallpaper, offbeat artwork and a cracking cocktail menu influenced by the city’s colonial past, with many of the drinks using tea as a main ingredient. The hotel’s rich culinary offerings, meanwhile, include Gradini (serving up classic Italian fare), Japanese-French fusion spot Holytan Grill, and Venchi, an artisanal gelato and chocolate shop.
