Fab 40: Bullerei Restaurant and Cafe, Hamburg
Young celebrity chef Tim Mälzer and business partner Patrick Rüther have launched Hamburg’s new restaurant du jour. Right in the meatpacking district and near the Schanze hood, the restaurant Bullerei is located in a former cattle hall.
Open 7 days it offers a deli and a restaurant. The industrial-looking space is split into several sitting booths, highlighted with the colourful graffiti of street artist Elmar Lause. The décor is informal and has been designed by interior designer Kathrin Bade and the architect Giorgio Gullotta. 'We wanted to create a place that is not over styled,' says Patrick.
The menu includes dishes such as barley soup with pork cheeks, veal knuckle with goats cheese and pumpkin, or the delicious Iberico pig. And if the Hamburg weather is playing it cool you can also sit outside on wooden benches and enjoy German sausages with beer. Book in advance though. It's been packed since opening and things don't look set to calm down anytime soon.
