Fab 40: SIS Deli+Café, Finland
Established by sisters Anu Syrmä and Kaisa Leikola in 2008, SIS Deli+Café this year opened its first inner city Helsinki branch, bringing top quality Finnish treats to the hard working folk of the capital. Adapted from the Finnish word for Sister, the SIS Deli-cum-café is a family affair, with pared-down and cosy interior stylings, top quality homemade food and a refreshing alternative to generic lunchtime fare.
Designed with the help of Finnish team Muotohiomo, the identity of the brand is warm and chic, with achromatic check throughout, and biodegradable, unfussy packaging used where possible. The real clincher, however, is the food - whether you’re eating in or taking away, top treats such as the native blackcurrant leaf tonic, blueberry liquorice and sea buckthorn marmalade keep loyal regulars coming back for more - while the sisters themselves recommend the sweet potato & carrot soup with orange & cardamom, followed by the intriguingly titled ‘Anti-O’ juice, with strawberry and fresh mint.
