Coco Chanel, who spent most of her adult life in a hotel, would surely have approved of the small but growing number of proeprties that offer both overnight and long-term stays.

Exhibit A is the Lindberg group which has just opened its third property in Frankfurt, this time in a handsome, transparent seven-level block designed by Franken Architekten whose high-ceilinged interlocking volumes hold a mix of 100 rooms, communal kitchen, restaurant, bar and co-working space.

The interiors, by local studio Aberja, fairly pop with pastel hues and a lively Art Deco vibe set off by Thonet chairs, Frank Landau vintage lamps, Muller van Severen shelves and filigreed steel room dividers.

An indoor herbarium, awash with sunlight, sets the stage for the vegetarian restaurant where Ricky Saward and Philip Egge cook up imaginative plates of celery carbonara spiked with smoked beets and hazelnuts, and cabbage braised with creamed sauerkraut and grapes.
