Double Roti — Chennai, India

Hospitality entrepreneur, Japtej Singh is doing his bit to boost Chennai’s burgeoning food scene with the launch of a hip gourmet sandwich joint. His second venture, following his Gurgaon-based venue, Double Roti (the local term for bread) joins the bustling café scene in the upscale neighbourhood of Alwarpet. A playful interior in a bold colour palette of reds and blues, sets the tone for a quirky menu, where all types of sandwiches are given names such as Poker Face, say Cheese Hotdog, Illegal Burger and Houston We’ve Got a Problem. We recommend Area 69, the signature burger with lemon aioli, ground beef, bacon, melted cheese and a Jack Daniels steak sauce, washed down with a jazzed up Madras coffee milkshake.
