Miramonti — Brescia, Italy

Framed by an almost implausibly stunning mountain landscape, the visual narrative of Brescia’s Miramonti hotel has always been led by nature. Now, a thorough revamp of the property by London-based studio Boxx Creative has driven the concept home with a complete redesign that puts the Italian Alps front and centre.
Dating to 1958, the family-run hotel is now imbued with a minimalist aesthetic that simultaneously aligns with the property’s newly realised environmental needs. As such, the materials used in all spaces — from the on-site spa to the cigar lounge — not only draw on the natural elements of earth, fire, air, water, wood and metal in a nod to the locale, but were also selected with sustainability in mind.
Bespoke furnishings created by a local craftsman include metal framed cabinetry, carved wood bed frames and solid desks, all of which sit in calming guestrooms dressed in shades of green and blue, and laid with handcrafted wooden flooring. In the public spaces, a rich natural Italian colour palette prevails, not least in the entrance lobby where panelled walls brush with olive toned leather banquette seating, brown patina club chairs and earthy rugs. It all sets an atmospheric launchpad from which to explore this corner of northern Italy, where skiing, hiking, fly fishing, porcini mushroom picking and wine-tasting in nearby vineyards are all within touching distance.
