Jaz Amsterdam — Amsterdam, Netherlands
For its newest opening, German hospitality group Steinberger Hotels, has set its sights on Amsterdam, where it has launched Jaz, a 274-room, 11 suite hotel, adjacent to both Ziggo Dome and Amsterdam Arena, the city’s two largest stadiums.
As reflected by the opening event’s theme, ‘built by music’, music and art permeate the hotel, beginning -refreshingly - with decent in-room sound systems by Bose. The theme continues in Rhythms Bar & Kitchen, which plays host to nightly DJ sets and impromptu performances by local live acts, including from the hotel’s staff, many of which are musicians and band members themselves. Rotating artworks, meanwhile adorn guest rooms.
An 11-storey building in a modern district outside of the historic centre, Jaz might not deliver the fabled Amsterdam experience of canals and charming streetscapes, but given that small rooms and high rates are also a common part of the central Amsterdam experience, Jaz is a welcome departure for the budget-conscious traveller.
