Morgan & Mees — Amsterdam, Netherlands

When hospitality entrepreneur Myrthe Slotemaker had the idea to create a hotel, bar and restaurant to satisfy the Dutch capital’s eclectic mix of both locals and visitors, she found the perfect business partners in Roger Peetoom, owner of beach club Republiek, and interior decorator, Marius Haverkamp. Together, they revamped a former 1880s girl’s orphanage, located on the corner of canal Nassaukade in the neighbourhood, Amsterdam-West. Following the concept of a ‘prosperous rendezvous’, Morgan & Mees tells the story of a chance encounter between an international traveller (Morgan) and a local (Mees), creating a unique backdrop for drinking, dining and sleeping in the city. The restaurant serves up international classics such as bouillabaisse and calamari a la plancha, while the nine individually decorated rooms and suites offer equally satisfying treats such as three and four-layered Coco-mat beds, Marie Stella Maris toiletries and rainforest showers.
