For its latest Wrocław project – a thoroughly unexpected take of an American diner – local studio BUCK has mined the rich look-book of 1970s Americana, in particular its moody Broadway set designs and street life. 

The effect is startling, not least because Biggy’s psychedelic pop art flash is such a contrast to the medieval classicism of Rynek market square just outside. Steel mesh screens in shades of electric pink, red and blue demarcate zones, separating a sit-down section from counter seats lined with geometric tripod stools. Neon signs designed by Łukasz Wojciechowski shimmer with unusually smart quips – ‘Cheesus walks with me’ and ‘Legalise marinara’.

Meanwhile, a vintage video game machine and hip-hop music on the soundtrack keep customers suitably entertained whilst they work their way through Biggy’s craft beers and wait for head chef Paweł Bieganowski to send out fluffy slabs of Detroit-style pizza and burgers encased in a potato roll.
