Only You Hotel Atocha — Madrid, Spain

For obvious reasons New York-style loft living is usually associated with the Big Apple itself. So, when Madrid’s Only You Hotels group chose to imbue its second property in the city with this aesthetic, it came as a surprise. Located in central district of Atocha, the urban-style hotel is just a few minutes away from Retiro Park and Madrid’s famous Golden Triangle of Art, amongst other cultural draws. So far, so Madrid.
Inside, however, Barcelona-based interior designer Lázaro Rosa Violán has defined every one of the hotel’s seven floors with interiors that pay homage to New York. Each of the 205 rooms is a smooth combination of industrial and Mediterranean styles and materials, where metro tiles converge with exposed brick, and contemporary art, mirrored walls and illuminated dressing tables bring a touch of polish and glamour.
However the New York theme is at its best in the hotel’s public spaces. A pop up gin bar, in collaboration with Seagram’s Gin, honours four Manhattan cocktail bars, including the highly acclaimed The Dead Rabbit, while Spanish cuisine is eschewed at The Bakery by Mama Framboise in favour of palmiers, doughnuts and macarons, offered in a New York deli-style setting. For flavours a little closer to home, chef Javi offers Latin American and Asian cuisine by way of Europe at Mora Trotamundos by Spoonik, while the stunning views from the seventh floor YOUniverse terrace and restaurant are wholly unique to Spanish capital.
