Waldorf Astoria — Bangkok, Thailand

It’s been a long time coming, but the Waldorf Astoria group has finally landed in South East Asia. Its location, in Bangkok’s downtown Ratchaprasong intersection, pays off visually with spectacular views over the Royal Bangkok Sports Club against the city’s looming skyscrapers.
Occupying the first 16 floors of a 57-storey mixed-use tower that architects global firm Gensler and local company DI Designs conceived as a spiraling magnolia flower in bloom, most of the interiors of the 171-room Waldorf Astoria Bangkok hotel are the work of André Fu. Here, the Hong Kong-based designer took his cues from his memories of visiting the legendary Waldorf Astoria New York as a child, while infusing it with a delicate sense of place. As such, the tropical lime green and mustard accents in the Front Room echo the shades of Thai spices, while bronze feature screens are garnished with art deco patterns and subtle Thai twists.
Of the six restaurants and bars, three have been designed by New York-based AvroKO. This includes The Champagne Bar on the top floor, where bubbly is served by the glass against some of the best views of the city.
