Palladian Hotel — Seattle, USA

A local landmark in downtown Seattle, the century-old Palladian building has been converted into a new hotel by San Francisco-based hospitality group Kimpton, making it their fourth property in the city. Entrusting their Northern Californian counterparts Nicole Hollis with the interior design, the guestrooms and common spaces have been dramatically overhauled to pay homage to the city’s maritime history and famously forward-thinking heritage. The darkly masculine lobby has been imparted with a speakeasy feel with leather banquettes, a library check-in and black classical columns; meanwhile, the designers’ lightness of touch is apparent in the guestrooms, which benefit from an abundance of natural light to highlight their brass accents, brushed metals and cornucopia of chic accessories. If the custom platform beds with reclaimed wood headboards don’t ensure a blissful sleep, then surely the crisp, soft Frette bed linens will. The hotel’s restaurant is a masterclass in locavorism, with the abundance of the Pacific Northwest’s coastline on its doorstep. Chef Walter Pisano oversees a seafood-centric menu of raw oysters and freshly landed halibut and albacore tuna, accompanied by aged old-world cocktails inspired by the city’s awe-inspiring natural surroundings.
