Drone dance
Comprising 300 choreographed drones mimicking the complex murmuration of a flock of birds, Studio Drift’s flying sculpture swooped over Miami
Presented by Pace Gallery in partnership with BMW, the Amsterdam duo’s performative artwork Franchise sits at the interstices between science, technology and visual spectacle. The performance took place throughout the duration of this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach (7-10 December) behind the Faena Hotel Miami Beach. It’s the first time a group of this scale has been realised by machines ‘working with decentralised algorithms’.
