Sofitel MyBed Universe: the winner revealed

Putting Sofitel's MyBed Universe competition to bed is Paris-based designer Clementine Pautrot and her fantastical installation

The winning design in Sofitel’s MyBed Universe competition was by Paris-based designer Clementine Pautrot. Back in April 2014, her fantastical bedroom installation formed the centrepiece for a cocktail event, co-hosted by Wallpaper* and Sofitel, to celebrate the climax of the competition. Pautrot’s prize-winning bed, on display in the lobby of the Sofitel Munich Bayerpost, was inspired by her fantasy of sleeping outdoors, surrounded by water … and the party was pretty dreamy too.

Rosa Bertoli was born in Udine, Italy, and now lives in London. Since 2014, she has been the Design Editor of Wallpaper*, where she oversees design content for the print and online editions, as well as special editorial projects. Through her role at Wallpaper*, she has written extensively about all areas of design. Rosa has been speaker and moderator for various design talks and conferences including London Craft Week, Maison & Objet, The Italian Cultural Institute (London), Clippings, Zaha Hadid Design, Kartell and Frieze Art Fair. Rosa has been on judging panels for the Chart Architecture Award, the Dutch Design Awards and the DesignGuild Marks. She has written for numerous English and Italian language publications, and worked as a content and communication consultant for fashion and design brands.

Architectural form meets comfort in a new outdoor furniture collection from Spanish specialist Vondom, the company’s second collaboration with architect and designer Jean-Marie Massaud.

Titled ‘Pasadena’, the new family of pieces – a lounge chair, a modular sofa, a side table and a sun lounger – relinquishes formal restraint in favour of the absolute ease of the user.

‘The ambition of the collection,’ explains Massaud, ‘is to reinterpret an archetype; to make an architectural product with this language and proportions, but generous in terms of comfort.’

With its resulting balance between refined lines and an enveloping welcome, the collection is at home both indoors and outdoors. Massaud consulted Vondom’s repertoire of technical materials and weatherproof foams to ensure soft and cocooning designs with all the resilience required for outdoor environments, and a fresh, vital aesthetic to match.

The architect is known for the signature simplicity and lightness of his work, which typically begins with a focus on quality of experience. With ‘Pasadena’, he wanted to bring sculptural nuance to the pieces, without sacrificing warmth. Job done – above all, this new outdoor furniture is an open invitation to sit down and relax in your outside space, in timeless style.
