Maria Sole Ferragamo takes her Sotheby’s Luxury Edit to New York and Paris
Maria Sole Ferragamo of Sole Studio’s elegant edit goes on tour

Maria Sole Ferragamo of Sole Studio, a current guest curator of Sotheby’s, is set to take her picks international, as her Sotheby’s Luxury Edit goes on tour.
The jewellery designer has compiled an elegant edit, from watches and jewellery to sneakers, handbags, wine and spirits for the sale, which is set to visit New York, Paris and Milan after opening in London earlier in September 2022.

‘I am so grateful to have been chosen by Sotheby’s to be their first Luxury Edit curator,’ Ferragamo says. ‘It’s been great to exercise my creative skills in a different way: as a curator, instead of a creator. I really enjoyed browsing through all these amazing objects, acknowledging their beauty and feeling their energy.’
It was a natural move for Ferragamo, who brings a distinctive aesthetic to Sole Studio, creating architecturally inspired pieces that subscribe to sustainable codes. To mark the Sotheby’s sales, Ferragamo is drawing on these values to create a limited series of one-off pieces inspired by the city hosting the Luxury Edit.
‘I decided to create one wearable sculpture design per city, inspired by an iconic landmark building,’ she adds. ‘There are so many incredible architectural works in all three cities, so it was a hard choice, but in the end, I decided that the common thread that should link all of them should be that they were inaugurated after 2000 and that they had some prominent and very characteristic geometric patterns.’

New York’s piece was inspired by The Vessel by Heatherwick Studio and London’s by The Great Hall of the British Museum by Norman Foster, while Paris’ design nods to the Fondation Louis Vuitton.
‘All of the pieces are made with upcycled leather I found in factories around Tuscany,’ says Ferragamo. ‘They play with illusion and distortion, looking heavy and cold, yet revealing their warmth and light when worn. Creating this collection allowed me to implement new techniques together with our craftsmen. Their construction was challenging, and it took many iterations to obtain the effortless balance of a clean and precise design.’
