‘According to the maxim ‘form follows function’, every detail has a purpose,’ say the watchmakers behind German watch brand Nomos.

It is a design philosophy brought to life in Glashütte, the location of the brand’s manufacture which has been handbuilding their movements and components since 1990. The largest mechanical watch manufacturers in Germany, they create the pieces which are thought up in the brand’s Berlin studio. The finished aesthetic is a typically restrained design, a slender case and clean, uncluttered dial the cornerstones of every Nomos watch.

Now, the brand has nodded to these watchmaking traditions with three new models which mark the 175th anniversary of watchmaking in Glashütte. The first, Ludwig, nodded to the town’s heritage, the second, Lambda, the skills to be found there. This third piece, Club, is an affordably priced sportier watch, an update of the original created in 2007. Three new versions, limited to 175 pieces each, come in muted hues inspired by the great outdoors, framing navy, olive and onyx in tough stainless steel.

‘With its robust case and relatively thick typography, the Club model has always been a sporty design in the NOMOS collection,’ chief branding officer, Judith Borowski, says. ‘This new limited edition collection features textile straps and metal bracelets, rather than the more typical Horween Cordovan found on NOMOS dress watches. The muted colours enhance the sporty undertones of this design.’
