It’s game on for Super Mario and Tag Heuer
Super Mario and Tag Heuer team up for a special edition of the Tag Heuer Connected watch
Super Mario is brought to playful life by Tag Heuer in a special gaming-inspired limited edition of the Tag Heuer Connected, marking the beginning of a long-standing collaboration between Nintendo and the watch brand.
In tune with the times, Mario has – like many of us – opted for a savvy pivot from his usual role, here dodging the hazards of the Mushroom Kingdom to instead become a champion of wellness on this sports watch. Nothing excites this new and improved Mario more than getting you moving, with his actions inspired by the Easter Egg concept familiar to gamers, which unlocks hidden surprises as you hit your targets.
From the cheerful morning salute to begin the day, Mario is buoyed with energy throughout, revealing rewards in line with your step count, playing out different animations on the dial as you hit 25 per cent, 50 per cent, 75 per cent and 100 per cent of your daily target. Fans will be relieved to hear Super Mario’s famous extras also play a part – at 3 o’clock, the Super Mushroom gives Mario a height boost, while at 6 o’clock the Pipe speeds him up. At 9 o’clock, the heavily coveted Super Star, which grants invincibility, lights up. When you reach your daily step count target, Mario vaults the Goal Pole in an energetic grand finale.
The watch is redesigned in the Super Mario colours, with four dials to choose from, each nodding to a different Mario feature. Details remain as faithful to the original as possible, with the pixellated Mario from 1985 depicted on the timekeeping watch face, while a dial with a more classic design references his red cap.
Not quick enough for the limited edition? Don’t despair – Tag Heuer promises the Super Mario ‘skins’ and watch faces will be available to download on other editions of the Connected in the near future.
